Initially a blog was where people let off steam, shared personal information with friends and ranted about world peace or stuffy noses in winter. LinkedIn has set the trend for the Blog = Resume concept. Contradictions may arise in the blog and the Resume if the blog is not kept up-to-date or vice versa. But I surely agree with you with respect to the need to building a web (blog) presence in addition to a well written resume, surely helps one's chances in being recruited for a suitable job.

this only proves that we can do anything right on the Internet and we can even pass a resume to an employer if we are looking for a job but if I were in the shoes of employers, I will not tolerate this. The traditional way of looking for a job is still the best way to get to know more of each other- jobhunter and employer!

Although my blog has nothing to do with my day job and includes a plethora of personal information and political viewpoints, it helped me get my current day job. My blog is a rough draft of my book, "Maybe I'm Just Lazy: One Woman's Journey Through MS and Life." (http://lazyjulie.blogspot.com) I started it after reading 1 (that's right, uno, one) blog and knowing almost nothing about blogging as you can see if you visit there.

During daylight hours, I work as a marketing writer for a company that manages surplus assets for various manufacturing, processing, and packaging industries. During my interview, my prospective boss told me that the job would include reviving the company's blog. I mentioned that I blogged in my personal life and he said, "I know."

I thought "Uh-oh, I didn't get this job." But I was wrong! He actually appreciated the fact that I had dipped my toe into new marketing/social networking and saw that as a marketable skill.

I think a blog is a great way to sell yourself and get noticed as going "above and beyond". What do you think of video resumes? Do you think they are as effective?

I suppose you could write under a fake name........but if you feel the need to do that, it may be a good indication that you aren't "putting your best foot forward" online.

wow, I wouldn't want that to happen to me one day! Now that brings about another question... Should you write off as your real name on the net? I wonder how far employers will see you if they discover your ramblings, past complaints or something along that line.

Well, that proves that it can be instrumental in getting you a job. I'm assuming you met him as a contact through blogging?
