Why I Don’t Like “Social Network Sites”
Recently, I’ve experimented with a fairly new tool, called MyBlogLog. MyBlogLog is basically a social network, that is for bloggers and has apparently become quite popular. I like the site stats it provides, but aside from that, I’ve found very few benefits. To be fair, I have to say that I’ve found several websites through MyBlogLog that I really like. But sadly, it’s a lot like MySpace.com, as it seems to be a popularity contest and a haven for spam. What’s the point?
When another member of the site looks at your profile, it’s recorded on your profile who has visited, as well as who has taken a look at your website. I’ve had tons of other “bloggers” add me as a contact and ask me to “check out their blog”, who never bothered to look at my site……..No thanks.
Just a couple of days ago, I received an email asking me to join some other website as a co-author on their MyBlogLog profile. I thought the whole thing sounded shady. I pulled up their profile and noticed they had HUNDREDS of “co-authors”. Shame on MyBlogLog for letting that come to my inbox. I’ve been thinking about posting about this for the last day or two. This morning I noticed a post by Chris Garrett addressing the same issue.
Yahoo recently bought MyBlogLog. What type of changes they will make to it I don’t know. I doubt I will stick around to see.
