Paintbrush : Theme for WordPress
05/30/07
My next offering into the world of WordPress themes, Paintbrush 1.0, is a theme with an exceptional color scheme.
There’s something I’ve always liked about blue and green together. And to be able to mix that with with art and painting, makes it that much better. It has great appeal!
Features include:
- Two Column
- Widget Ready
- CSS Valid

That’s pretty creative. I like the concept.
You’ve turned into a theme machine Anthony!
242 downloads? Wow! That may mean 242 incoming links, 242 happy campers, an dmore encouragement to “keep on keepin’ on” as Chilly might say.
Quite lovely. Reminds me of paradise.
Is it WP2.2 compatible? (just in case I used it at Blue Host)
Is it part of the offerings at WordPress.com (just in case I decide opt for hosting at WP.com)
I just sent this post to Ashley. . It’s realy quite nice, Anthony.
Shane,
Thanks. The concept is one of those little ideas I’ve had in the back of my mind for some time. I just got around to ‘taking action’ on it.
Nia,
Thanks for the compliments. The theme is not available on WordPress.com. Maybe one day I’ll be on of the chosen few. As far as being WP2.2 compatible, I’m not positive to be honest….I haven’t upgraded yet. It displays fine on WP2.0 and 2.1. But, I haven’t tested it on 2.2.
Looks like you’ve been staying busy with all of the theme creation. I like the the design of this one as well, it definitely has a unique look and fee to it. Good Work!
Yeah, I’ve been doodling around with it a good bit lately…..thanks for the compliments.
I love this theme, but it seems to have an issue, and I’m not sure how to fix it. If you click on a category to show just the posts in that category the posts markup doesn’t seem to be parsed correctly, if at all. The (more) or in this case, the … link doesn’t function, images aren’t displayed either. I’m going to continue to look for a fix for it, but thought you should know. Other than that I think it’s fantastic.
Marc,
Thanks for the compliment. I, too, really like the look of the theme….it turned out better than I had hoped.
As far as the issue, I’m not having that same issue with it. I’ve tested the theme on two different sites, including this one, and everything seems to be working properly…..?
When you click on a “category”, what you should get is a page with a post exerpt from each post in the category. I don’t think you’ll see the full post or the images until you click the headline of a particular post. I’m not sure that’s the issue your having, but I’m not running into an issue with the categories.
Yes, clicking the headline takes me to the full posting with images, but the Category page does not show images or a clickable (more) link. Other themes show images and have a clickable more link on the Category pages. At least the ones I’ve tried. Shouldn’t the behavior be the same as the other themes?
It seems intuitive to me that if a post excerpt is displayed with an image and a more link on the main page, then the category page should do the same. But if that’s the expected behavior for this theme then that’s that.
Thanks for the reply.
Marc,
As far as the behavior being the same as other themes, all of them are not coded the same. Having said that, the only way I’m aware of to get images to be displayed on a ‘categories’ page, is for that page to display the post exactly as they are on the front page. In other words, if I show a full text post on the front page, the full text post will display on the categories page. If I use a post excerpt (using the “more” tag), the categories page will display the post the same way.
I’ve updated the theme to do just that. I agree I should have had a clickable “more” link on the excerpts…..not a problem to fix. However, I couldn’t find a way to fix the images not displaying except to have the post display the same on the “categories” pages as they do on the front page. I hope that helps you and thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Great. Thanks much. Hopefully, one day I’ll be able to get into designing a few themes of my own, as well.
I’m having a problem with editing comments. I’m not sure what’s going on. When I click on the edit link for comments in the dashboard, a 404 error gets thrown. I have confirmed that permissions are properly set on the comment.php file and that the file exists. Any suggestions for what may be going on here?
Aaron,
I wish I could help with that, but I really don’t know. I think the problem is more WordPress related, than theme related. I just finished testing this out on my testsite using the Paintbrush theme, and didn’t have any problems. You might want to activate the default theme, and try it out, but I don’t think that’s the problem.
The only place I would know of to inquire would be the WordPress Support Forums. Wish I could be more help….
First of all, your themes are awesome! Nice work!
I’m not sure if this has been updated, but there’s an issue similar to the one in your YellowJacket theme when it comes to Internet Exploder and the footer crossing the widgets. I just thought I’d mention it here in case others were looking for the fix. The style..css needs to be updated so that #footer{ clear: both; is changed to #footer{ clear: none;
If this has already been updated or mentioned, feel free to delete this comment and call me an idiot.
Once again, thanks for your beautiful work!
Hey Lyman,
Thanks for the compliments. It hasn’t been updated because the WordPress people have the Theme Viewer Accounts frozen. Can’t upload new themes or update the present ones. I’m not sure how long that will be the case. Thanks for mentioning that. And no………you’re no idiot! hehehe
Thanks for the great theme. However this seems to have problems on IE browser. It just shows the blue background. Also I was not able to cut and paste tables onto the post. Appreciate your help.
Taj,
What version of IE are you using? I’ve tested the theme in version 6 and 7, and it displays properly. I’m not sure about older versions than 6. As for putting tables within a post, have you been able to do that with other WordPress themes?
Anthony,
Thanks for the reply. I have tested on IE 7.0.5 on XP and Vista both.
Regards,
TAJ
How about leaving your website address, where I can see if it works for me?

Thanks for posting it Taj. I’m completely stumped by this one……never seen this problem before.
If it were me, I would probably experiment to make sure all the plug-ins you use are agreeing with the theme by deactivating individual ones to see if it displays without them. You may at least pinpoint what the problem is.
Hi pleased I’ve downloaded this theme and I really love it, but I would like to change the box to rounded corners. Anyone could help me?
thanks you very match
If you’re talking about making the corners rounded, you’ll probably have to hire someone to do it. That’s not something that can be done by just changing a little code. The corners would have to be created as background images and put into place.
Hi Anthony,
I love this theme…the colors and texture. I’m getting reports from people on IE that my pages are scrambled with a line running across the middle of the page. Can you help with that?
Also, I’m wanting to move the blog to http://www.womenroarblog.com. Do you know how to do that other than redirecting?
Thanks for your help!
Haumea,
Thanks. I took a look at your site on IE and IE7 and the only problem I’m seeing is with the footer not staying on the bottom. I thought I had updated the theme to take care of this……maybe not. To fix the issue, scroll to the bottom of the style.css file and change this line of code:
#footer{ clear: both;
to
#footer{ clear: none;
Hi there
I just want to let you know that I’ve been using your WP Theme for my personal blog that I launched last month and I really really love it. Actually I am quite picky when it comes to choosing themes that’s why when I set up blogs, it takes me a while. Well the reason why I love it is because it is easy on the eyes and it looks very comforting, like when you’re looking at the calm ocean. It’s perfect for my personal site since I post jokes and other fun stuff. And it’s not corny. I just want to ask if you’d release a 3-column version of this theme or if you’d create something that is cartoony but not corny like this theme.
Anyway, again I just want to say thank you so very much!!!
Hi Ant,
I really liked your Paintbrush theme but can’t get it to work. I’m having similar problems with other themes I uploaded.
I’m really new at this so I probably did something stupid. It doesn’t seem to pick up GIF, JPG or PNG files. We’re using WP 2.13 (?) and I uploaded the themes with Filezilla. I’m not seeing the header or anything else with a GIF tag.
I appreciate your input.

[...] found this awesome theme (thanks Antbag) which I used on Markitechture.com, here, and now on the SOPtalk blog. Hopefully [...]
Hi Anthony
Great theme! I’ve just started looking after our clubs WP site, first thing I did was to update WP to the latest version… sadly it seems to have broken the header bar which organises the pages. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, pilks.
pilkster,
Not really sure. Are you sure you haven’t changed any code in the menu? The menu in this theme isn’t set up for sub-pages.
Hey Anthony
I had the menubar fixed up to work with nested subpages. If you want a copy of the code drop me a mail. Oh, and I dropped a link in the footer, think the previous admin must have removed it… I know how annoying that can be as I’ve published more than a few themes in the past.
Thanks again for the awesome theme, pilks.
Is this theme no longer being supported? I am getting a load of deprecated errors and can’t log into the dashboard so I’m pretty stuck. What do I need to do so I can log in?
Thanks
The theme is no longer supported. However, I have tested it on the latest version of WordPress(2.9.2), and everything seems to be functioning like it’s supposed to.
