NetWorker: Theme for Wordpress

Oh no!!!! I’m becoming one of those bloggers who constantly changes their design……..oh, the horror!
Just kidding.
Actually, I’ve changed it up a couple of times lately, but that’s only because I’m having a great time producing themes. I had no intentions of putting this one up for download, but I decided I wanted something a little different. Now that my new design is ready, I want to share this one. I’ve used this design here on my site for the past month, and I’ve received some great compliments on it.
About This Theme
Do you remember Fastway? You know, that awesome 3 column theme from last month? Well, this theme was built using Fastway. You’ll notice that the same colors are used, I just moved things around. Originally, I was only going to take Fastway, and move both sidebars to the right side. I started tweaking this and that, and eventually, I had tweaked so much that I had a whole new theme. haha!
NetWorker is widget ready, and just waiting to help some diamond in the rough take their blog to the next level!

I think this one is going to be very popular!
Have you thought about doing some design tutorials Anthony? I’m actually doing a redesign myself, and I don’t know too much about widgets since I hard code my sidebar.
Might make for some great added value content for your theme fans!

Shane,
The thought has come to mind, but I haven’t sat down to put anything together so far. My next design on this site will not use widgets, but will still have the functionality.
The cool thing about sidebar widgets, is you can have your sidebar coded however you want, then if you want it changed, you just drag some widgets on top of it………and it only takes one line of code.

Dude! That new design you have on right now: killer!

Thanks Jon. Are you considering using it anywhere?
July 13th, 2007 at 7:00 pm
Yep, I think I’ll use it on that new blog!
Since it’s built on Fastway, and I’ve been working on that design quite a lot (with your help) using fastway, I can find my way, and customize NetWorker pretty easily. (by the way, the name of that new theme is perfect)
July 13th, 2007 at 11:51 pm
yeah, I think you’ll find the code rather familiar. I’m glad somebody likes the name. I usually have to think one up.

Hi Anthony,
I have tried this theme on my blog. It doesn’t seem to work well with IE6: on the mainpage only the latest post is shown. Works beautifully with Firefox and IE7.
Are planning to fix the IE 6 thing? A majority of readers at least on my blog still use IE 6.
July 16th, 2007 at 3:31 pm
Rohit,
Have you modified any of the files? I’m looking at the theme on IE6 on a second computer right beside me, and I’m not seeing any problems.

Nice blog design, at the top it is like a blog in a blog – one that i have not noticed till now
July 18th, 2007 at 12:20 am
Is there something I can do to put a banner ad in the header, just like you have in the thumbnail? Thanks.
July 18th, 2007 at 1:43 am
Zack,
Here’s what I did…….there may be a more proper way, I’m not for sure.
I put the image code in the header.php file following the “h1″ title on the same line.
Then I put this code in the stylesheet to set the position:
#header img{float: right;
margin-top: -95px;
margin-right: 12px;
}
Hope that helps you out.

Thank you for all the great looking themes.
What ver. of WP can it be used, all your themes?
2.0.10,
2.1.3,
2.2.1,
wpmu?
July 20th, 2007 at 1:34 pm
Kenn,
I’ve tested the themes on WP2 and later. I think they will probably work on older versions as well, but I haven’t tested that out.
July 29th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
I’ve downloaded and am using your theme on my blog.
I noticed that there are Recents Comments and Top commentators functions on the sidebar. But it seems like they do not show up on my blog.
do I have to install a few line of code or because of I just changed the new layout, so I have to wait for the comming comments to make both functions show up?
July 30th, 2007 at 9:46 am
THX and i am impressed,
I downloaded and install the them at my blog . This theme is one of the theme’s i would like to use as it is, done by you. It seems to be written for me and i think perhaps i will do no changes and leave it like it is.
Compliment for ya great work
Jazzie

moneygod,
To be honest the code you’re referring to is the supporting code for the Recent Comments and Top Commentors plug-ins. If you download and install those plug-ins…….the code is already in place.
Jazzie,
THANK YOU!

I just started exploring some new exciting web features (for lack of a better term)… And several of them have popped up in front of me, just within the past few minutes.
I was wondering, not that long ago, what platform to use, for starting a new weblog. My main one had its fifth ‘Blogiversary’, earlier this month. I had used Blogger at that time, since I was beginning the blogging thing… Some time later, I was wondering if I should switch to Movable Type (then, TypePad was released); for my purposes though [a personal weblog], I could find no solid reason to do so.
I was leaning towards using a non-Blogger service this time, and Wordpress was released, more recently, and it seemed to be what more and more people are now using. Upon recommendations, I decided to go with WordPress… I found out however, that there is a different between Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org (the latter is much more complicated, but with the former, I’m not allowed to put advertisements, and some other features, on my weblog). Fortunately, a new Blogosphere contact I made offered to install WordPress.org for me. I found out that my student web server space could not handle PHP, so I purchased a web hosting option, that not only handled PHP, but also provided “mySQL tables” (I still don’t really know what those are, but fortunately, I don’t have to
…
This evening, I have been wanting to get started, with this new weblog. The person who installed Wordpress.org for me suggested choosing a ‘Theme’, for my new blog, that is 3-column, and “widget”-ready.
The 3-column feature interested me, because I was remembering that, when editing my template on my Blogger weblogs, I was wishing that there could be a second sidebar (on the other side) – at least a short one. I like to have a lot of supplemental content, links, and features, on my weblogs and web pages.
I just began my search, and the first template (uh… theme) that interested me is this one, from which I found (trackbacked to that page) this entry of yours.
It will be neat, having a template (theme) for which I can have two sidebars. But this template is interesting, because the two ’sidebars’ are both on the same side of the page.
When I was originally wishing for two sidebars (mentioned above), I was probably thinking of how I could add more links and images… but now that more people are using blog advertisements, sidebars have even more uses.
But I am wondering if it is better to have one sidebar on each side of your blog’s web page, or instead, to have both on the same side, like in this template, that we’re discussing.
With so many available, it may be hard to choose… Sometimes it’s actually simpler, when less options are available. When I just looked back at the original Wordpress page for this template/theme, I see that it says that this is an “adsense ready theme”… which is why I think it may be preferable, to “Fastway,” which I just found, via your link in this entry (though I don’t know, because I’m assuming that Adsense can be easily put into the Fastway template as well). I see that you also say that this new “Networker” theme is “widget ready” – that is the other feature (in addition to a 3-column format), that I was advised to select, when searching for a theme (as I mentioned above). But does that mean that “Fastway” is not “widget-ready”?
I like your color scheme… I may end up making “Networker” my first Wordpress.org blog template… theme!
Thank you for doing all this work, in creating nice-looking templates, for public use, free of charge! Please keep up the good work!!

Aakash,
Wow! I believe that’s the longest comment I’ve ever gotten on this blog!
First of all, congratulations on choosing Wordpress. I’ve used Blogger in the past, as well as several other platforms, and Wordpress is the best by far…..out of the ones I’ve tried.
To answer a few of your questions, ALL of my themes are widget-ready. I generally like to point this out each time one becomes available because the majority of Wordpress users like widgets.
Themes with two sidebars have become extremely popular as blogs have become more and more commercial. Many bloggers like to monetize their blogs by placing advertisements such as Google Adsense in one of the sidebars. I said that NetWorker was adsense ready because I’ve seen the same thing said about many 3-column themes that have 2 sidebars on the right side. But as you guessed, the same Adsense code can be added to Fastway just as easy. Which is better? That all comes down to which you like better.
October 4th, 2007 at 8:47 am
Hi!
I like this plugin very much, but ever since I upgraded WP to ver. 2.3 I have been unable to use because the sidebars has disappeared.
Do you know why and can you make them come back?
Thanks!

Is there a minimum PHP version required to run this theme? My test machine has v5+ and the live server has v4.4.4.
October 10th, 2007 at 6:33 pm
Chris,
It’s worked for me on both v4 and v5. Haven’t tried anything earlier.

Hi there
I would like to say this is a good design also, i did have a few problems however, i couldnt get the wordpress image and the sponsored ad image to appear, and i have really no idea why as the images were in teh right directories, so ive had to remove them, and added a text link to wordpress instead.
I am new to wordpress also, i have always used blogger, every wordpress style ive tryed up to now had 5 or 6 links in the footer, which is very annoying so nice to see there is only one on this style.
Anyone any tips on how to add adsense code to this ? and where to put it ?
Woc
November 7th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
Hi Mr. Woc,
The easiest way to add adsense is to place the code in a text widget, and slide it into place. If you don’t use widgets, you can place the code directly in the sidebar.php file.

I had to put your theme to work on a site that I’m just putting together. So far it’s working out great and I look forward to using the other themes as well. Keep up all the good work.

Anthony,
Many thanks for this wordpress theme. I have been using networker for about six months now and have been getting great feedback. As a lawyer, I needed something somewhat conservative and business-like. As a member of the entertainment business community, I also needed something “different” (literally, in quotes) and creative. You’ve merged both worlds with this theme.
Two changes I would like to see would be to have fluid widths and columns on both sides.
Thanks again for the theme.
Kind regards,
Peter Kaufman

Thanks Peter, will take your suggestions into consideration when I update the theme. Glad you like it!

I love this theme!!
But, I am having a problem posting pictures.
When using the code:
The picture is never displayed, all I am getting is a quotation. I am assuming I am entering the picture incorrectly but I absolutely love this theme and was hoping to get some help on this issue.

Hi,
Your theme is great! I was hoping you could tell me how to add a date stamp to posts that are listed out from their category links. When you click on one of our categories, the posts show associated tags and author, but no date stamp.
I really appreciate any help.

thank you very much for your blog and for this theme. I’m using it on this blog. http://www.josesindo.es

Great theme. Just discovered it and converted my site. One thing I’d like to add is a way for anyone posting a comment to choose to be emailed when additional comments are added to a post after they have posted their own. I know I like this capability and have seen it on other WordPress sites. Is that hidden somewhere in the theme I haven’t found or do you know of a widget or other way to add it? That would make the design near perfect. Thanks.

Jack – I think there is a plugin called ’subscribe to comments’ or something similar.

Well done Anthony, it’s really a great theme. But too bad i’m using blogspot now so i’m not gonna be able to try it soon
.
But some day i’ll definitely love to try it. I’ll make sure it on my top list .
