Fastway - Theme for Wordpress

If you look around the net for Wordpress themes, you’ll notice that there are tons of them that are freely available. But the design you choose for your site says a lot about you. IMHO, when someone visits your site for the first time, your design is probably what they will remember most……dare I say it……….maybe even more than your great writing. ;-) That’s why I think it’s important to have a theme that looks clean, uncluttered, and professional. That’s where Fastway comes in.

Enter FASTWAY!

I’ve used this theme right here on my site for the past week. After checking it out, Jonathan-C. Phillips shared his impression:

I have to say, this new theme is incredibly good looking, stylish, pro, wow!

Simply put, this is the one you’ve been looking for!

Screenshot of Fastway

While I really like this design, my original intention for it was to be a publicly released theme. After briefly using it myself, I’ve made a few improvements and am ready to offer it to you! This is the first 3 column theme I’ve made available. From the nice color scheme, to the vast amount of white space, this theme is an excellent platform for any type of blog.

Download it or take it for a Test Drive today!

p.s. - did I mention that it’s widget ready…..?

    Anthony,

You’ve turned into an absolute theme warrior! Fastway looks good, but the one you’ve got up right now … people are gonna want to get there hands on it … so you better start designing a new one! haha

    Really slick. Good to see.

Thanks Shane……..I’m excited about Fastway. It looks better now than when I had it activated on here. I made a few changes, including the fonts. I think it has a much broader appeal than my other ones.

As for this design I’m using now……well, I really have this site set up like I want it now. Maybe I’ll stick with this for a while.

Oh by the way, I read your post on Shoemoney today! Congratulations! That should get the traffic flowing!

    Hi there!

Fastway is a nice theme. Thanks for making it available! I have two questions:

    1) How do I remove the checkerboard at the top? I know that’s really the central part of the theme, but I was hoping to take it out. However, I can’t find it in the files anywhere. I just can’t figure out how you did it.

    2) As predicted, someone is asking about your current theme. I LOVE IT. Are you planning to release it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  11. comment author photo

    Hey Steve,

The checkerboard at the top of the theme is an image file. You can either go into you image file that came with the theme and delete the it……..I believe it’s “very_top_bg.gif”.

Or, you can open the stylesheet. Toward the top in the body elements, you’ll see something like this:

    background: #FFF url(images/very_top_bg.gif) repeat-x left top;

Just change that line to look like this:

    background: #FFF;

  12. comment author photo

Oh, and the current design I’m using……I don’t know what the future will hold, but for now….it’s all mine! :-)

  13. comment author photo

I have a feeling customizing Fastway will be a breeze, code is clean, comments everywhere, everything is at the right place and everything works perfect. Seriously, so far, love it!

  14. comment author photo

Thanks for the help, Anthony. I can’t believe I didn’t notice that file. I figured it was an image file, and I actually did a search for a .jpg in the stylesheet. No wonder I didn’t find it. It’s a .gif!

I’m still making tweaks to colors and such. Once I’m done, I’ll probably start using the theme.

    Steve,
Your welcome. Startup Bizcast looks excellent…….exactly the kind of site I had envisioned. Great job with the customizations.

    Jonathan,
I’m glad to hear that your liking it. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with it. By the way, how’s the ebook coming along?

  16. comment author photo

Anthony, I really like it, I’m not done with the mods yet, but you can take a look at it here: http://freelancefolder.com

I’m working on buttons, logo, and some “web 2.0″ icons.

I moved the left sidebar to the right though. I’ll test it in diffferent browsers, but now it looks fine in Safari, Firefox and Opera on my Mac. The more I work with that theme, the more I like it ;)

  17. comment author photo

oh and the ebook is coming along great, takes more time than I thought it would, but I’m taking Shane’s advice, 1 page at a time, I can’t write 100 pages a day either so :)

  18. comment author photo

    Anthony,

Thanks! I appreciate your feedback. I tinkered with it a touch this afternoon and I think I’m done. It was a LOT easier to customize than my last theme. It took me hours and hours to fix that one, and there were still a few problems here and there.

Thumbs up on a great theme! I’ll look your way next time I overhaul my other blog, Media Relations and SEO PR.

    Thanks again!

    Steve

    Steve -
You’re welcome. Thanks for choosing my design for such a great site.

    Jonathan -
It’s looking awesome. It’s funny, I have a version with both sidebars on the right as well. I guess you could say that’s what the design on this site is. I built this one from that one, so really it’s the same design. Anyway, you have it looking great. I’m loving the logo.

  20. comment author photo

    Anthony,

I was in need of a very simplistic, clean design with minimal “pizazz”, but great use of space for an external project of our staff. Your design came out on top. I’ve modified it to a 2 column, minified theme (by forcing widgets and only using 3 - and also hiding a full column in the CSS). I’ve also made it a fluid width, dropping proper support for IE6 (still works, but IE7 and FF support min-width; I didn’t want to take advantage of the IE6.css file).

I too decided to remove the checkered banner, partially because I work in Photoshop too much and my eyes are drawn to it over everything else (”Where’s my FILL tool?!). Excellent work on this theme. I have modified the footer, but only so your full name is used rather than your nickname, due to the content of the site, I don’t think the alias would go over too well with my supervisors. ;) If you wanted to take a look at it, you should be able to see it in your management area, I don’t yet want to link to it as there won’t be any actual content there for about another 2 weeks or so.

  21. comment author photo

    Brendon,

Thanks for letting me know about the site. I took a look at it, and it’s looking very good!

As far as the footer - no problem at all. I’ll check back in a few weeks to see it once you start getting the content added.

  22. comment author photo

Brendon — I did the exact same thing every time I saw the checkerboard. “Why the heck is there a transparent area there? I didn’t put it there!”

    LOL!

Jonathan — I took a look at your site. Looks awesome! I need to keep an eye on it. The blog for which I’m using Fastway http://www.startupbizcast.comis actually a podcast that gives advice for small business owners and entrepreneurs. Maybe we can trade links or info back and forth.

  23. comment author photo

Steve, I’m checking out your blog, looks really nice, for sure we can trade link! I’m still at the stage of finding the bugs and customizing the theme, but as soon as it’s up I’ll hit you up! :)
Anthony, I’m having a little problem with the leftbar, I moved it to the right, so the layout is content-leftbar-sidebar (from left to right), on some posts everything looks perfect, but on others (like the last one titled “long post testing”) the sidebar that has the orange rss button at the top falls below the comment box. Man I’ve been trying to figure out why hehe, but seems my css and php knowledge won’t do. If you have time, can you check it out? I can give you access to the wordpress admin, so you’d have access to the theme editor and all.

    Lemme know :) Thanx Anthony

  27. comment author photo

Hey Anthony, got the “subscribe to comments” plugin to work, just a thought, you could package the fastway theme with that already included, that would be awesome :)

  28. comment author photo

That’s not a bad idea, Jonathan…….I may look into that.

  32. comment author photo

    Joe,

I just tested it out, and it’s working on my end. The link in the post should take you to the Theme Viewer where you can either see the demo, or download. I followed the link there and then downloaded to test it out. If you continue having problems with it, I’ll be glad to email you the .zip file.

Great design. I love it and set up my first blog on it. Very exciting!

I’m having one problem. The RSS subscribe button brings up a code page, not a signup for feeds page. — Is there something I can do to make the button work?

  34. comment author photo

Hey Judith, Thanks for using Fastway…..I’m glad you like it. I responded to an email you sent me a few days ago…..you must have not received it…….it was to a different email address.

I visited your blog on both Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 and tested the subscribe button. For me, it’s functioning like it’s supposed to.

This is just a thought, but do you have a feed reader set up? I think if you don’t have something set up, you will probably get a page of code……..I’m not sure. Let me know. I’ll try my best to help you figure out the problem.

  35. comment author photo

    Thanks Anthony. Got the email.
And I bet you’re right! I never set up a feed reader. Of course, now I must ask: how do I do that? I don’t see it in my wordpress dashboard or related stuff. (And a couple of subscribers have said they get code when they hit the subscribe button, too.)

  36. comment author photo

Well, It’s not part of Worpress. There are several free ones available that are very good…..Bloglines, Netvibes, and my favorite, Google Reader. I think the problem is, that if you’ve never used a feedreader, and you try to subscribe to a feed, your browser’s not sure what to do with the info(especially if you’re using Internet Explorer).

When I click your subscribe button, I get a page asking me which feedreader I want the feed to go to…..because I have an account with a couple of different ones.

  37. comment author photo

Thanks again, Anthony. I shared your insight and link w/my subscribers. As you see, this is a “teaching” site, showing my small business clients the whys, hows of setting up a blog, so running into a glitch and having your expert response has been a terrific addition for us all.
I do subscribe to a few feeds, have upgraded to IE 7, still see code when I come in on my AT&T Yahoo DSL browser interface. But when I come in straight off IE7, all works beautifully, giving me those choices. Think it might be that AT&T interface!

  38. comment author photo

Thanks Judith. I’m glad it’s working for you. Me an expert? I’m flattered, but far from it!

I am using this theme, Thanks!
I have a question about how the title appears in bookmark or in Google, some theme shows the “title:subtitle”, this theme only shows the “title”, how to make it also show the subtitle? Thanks.
By the way, my blog is in Chinese.

    great wordpress theme.

i was wanting to do the following.

i have an ad for my firm to put on my blog under “sponsors” how do i place the ad (it is an image) where it says “ad space”?

    cheers

  45. comment author photo

    Hi Justin,
You’re actually using the NetWorker theme as opposed to Fastway. For the image, if you’ll open the sidebar.php file, you can scroll down and find the section titled “Sponsors”. There’s already some code for an image there. You can just replace that code with the code from the ad you want to place there.

    What a GREAT looking theme.

I’ve been looking for a good three column blog and now I don’t have to keep looking.

I’m going to go start putting it online now.

    Thanks,

    Neil
