Reboot: Minimalism

If there is any part of this post that doesn’t make sense, it’s because I’ve changed the theme again since I wrote it. ;-) …I needed more color. It’s still pretty minimal. Scratch that. Changed my mind.

I decided it was time to make a change here, design wise. I wanted to make more of a minimalist type of design, without it looking completely plain. So, the design has a few splashes of color here and there. I was mostly inspired to go this route after navigating through minimalsites.com, which is a gallery of minimalist website designs.

Another thing I wanted to get away from, are the normal link colors such as blue. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I was ready to do something different, so I’ve gone with a purple(#990099) as my primary link color. Also, as you can see, I added a yellow background to the site title, as well as to the links within an a-side post.

One thing that runs the risk of being confusing to some folks, would be the fact that I used the same font properties on several different elements. For instance, the headings in the sidebar are the exact same font as the post meta information. Some of that text being links to comments, etc., some of the text is not. The reason I did this was that I thought it gave the design a more polished look. In my opinion, minimalism shouldn’t be plain and boring, but should have subtleties that add a touch of class. I hope I accomplished that with this.

The Future of the Design

I plan to make this theme publicly available in the near future. It won’t make any big splash in the WordPress community. I won’t promote it. But those who like it and would like to use it, it will be here.

Videographer – Theme for WordPress

Videographer theme for WordPress

I’ve never posted a theme before that I didn’t create, but today we have a real treat. Shane at Zoomstart, has created a theme called Videographer that has me quite impressed. As video becomes more and more prevalent online, so does the need to create new ways of displaying those videos. The most popular way to host video content online is, of course, YouTube.

Introducing Fastway 2.0 – WordPress Theme

Enter the Fastway 2.0

As you may have noticed by looking at several of my themes, not to mention the current design on this site, I like whitespace. I like the way whitespace allows focus on text and images, and Fastway 2.0 is another great example of that. It has enough color to add flavor, but retains a very clean look.

Fastway 2.0 is an upgraded version of my Fastway theme, and is a huge improvement over the previous version. Among those improvements are a more sleek and refined layout, and error-free XHTML and CSS code.

Darkwater 2-Column – Theme for WordPress

Darkwater 2-Column Theme for WordPress

First of all, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I hope this will be great year for all of you!

Available today is a 2 Column version of my Darkwater theme for WordPress. I’ve actually gotten several requests for this, so here it is for you guys who asked for it. The original Darkwater has been my second most popular theme, right behind NetWorker.

I’ve made a few other changes and modifications besides just losing a sidebar. Here are a few things that were modified:

  • Added the “search” feature at the top of the sidebar.
  • Updated the comment form and comment area.
  • Widened the post area.
  • Re-Organized the stylesheet which will make it easier to customize.

I hope many people will be able to use and enjoy this theme. If the WordPress Theme Viewer website ever allows uploading new themes again(I’m starting to wonder?), this theme along with updated copies of my other themes will be available there as well.

*This theme was built with valid XHTML and CSS code.

Reverence – Theme for WordPress

Reverence

Ok, so where did I come up with a name like “Reverence”? Honestly, I’m not sure. I know I heard the word used from time to time growing up in the church, and I suppose that’s where it came from. I was looking at this theme, and the thoughts that came to mind were something very quiet and settled. So the word just sort of popped in my mind, and I went with it.

This theme is one of my favorite dark themes so far. It has smooth, linear look with a matte finish. Hope you guys like it.

Finishline – Theme for WordPress

My new WordPress theme is called Finishline, and will look familiar to some of you. I had this design on my blog the first few months. At the time, I was using the Cutline theme, which I customized to look like this. Since that time, I’ve rebuilt the theme on my own framework.

Finshline Theme for WordPress

One very cool thing about this design, is the header image………or images I should say! First of all, this theme has random header images which is totally cool! The photos were taken by Jeff Keeton, a.k.a. Mulsanne. I used the same images before, and asked the photographer for permission to use them if I ever offered the theme for download.

It’s been exactly two months since I made the Networker theme available. It has become my most popular at this point, with over 4,000 downloads. Now obviously, I would love for Finishline to surpass it. Please check it out!
