Having a blog is a lot of fun. To read blogs can be enjoyable as well, as long as there is fresh content. That can be the difficult part for a blogger.
When preparing to write a blog post, where do you get your ideas? Are they thoughts you already had, or are they ideas you came up with for the purpose of posting? Some people seem to have loads and loads of material, while others start with a bang, and slowly their posts become fewer and farther apart. Is this because they are running out of material? Or are they becoming bored? I’ve noticed many blogs that just rehash whats in the news or what some other blogger said. These are valid things to include in a blog, but not as the primary content.
Being Creative
I think for me it varies. Usually before I post, I’m thinking about the subject for a few days and hopefully how to present it in a clear and creative way. The primary goals are to:
- Provide useful information
- Write in a clear and direct way
- Ideally, create discussion
The first two are up to me, while the third one requires you, the reader, to participate. Once or twice, I’ve gotten an idea for a post by thinking of the illustration first. On the surface, that seems like a backward way of doing things. But if it works, and I can provide useful information, so what! There really is no right or wrong way. It comes down to finding what works for you. What are your thoughts?
This is one of the most difficult aspects being an effective blogger. It is very difficult to come up with quality content for your community that someone else hasn’t said already. I usually get a majority of my ideas from my work experiences throughout the day or things that I am passionate about in my life.
I agree it can become a very difficult thing. Not at first, but to continually have quality content to present is a challenge at times. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts, Clarke.
