Introducing Freelance Folder

Freelance Folder

I’m very pleased to introduce a new website called Freelance Folder. The project belongs to Jonathan Phillips, and knowing Jon, the site is destined for some big things! Freelance Folder is not just another blog for Jon, but it’s a site with multiple authors which came out on launch day with several impressive articles. Several things I really like about Freelance Folder:

  1. The site focuses on entrepreneurship and freelancing……subjects that are always interesting to read and learn about.
  2. There appears to be some great talent lined up for the writing. Jon is still taking submissions if you would like to contribute.
  3. The site’s design is built on my Networker theme. That’s right, my latest Wordpress theme. Jonathan did an awesome job customizing it to meet his vision.

Be sure to visit the site, leave a comment or two, and subscribe to the feed.

Wordpress Theme Tips – Text

Tips for Customizing You Blog Theme

Almost every blogger would like their design to be different from everyone else’s. After all, that’s one more thing that can set you apart from the crowd. However, not every blogger has experience with CSS. If you fit that description, I’ve written this just for you!

This isn’t really an introduction to CSS. It’s more of a guide to change specific elements within your theme. Over the course of several posts, I’m going to cover some things you can do to your current theme to add your own flavor and style. In this post, we’ll take a look at the text.

I’ve Been Interviewed

disassociated.com

John Lampard recently interviewed me for his site, disassociated.com, in relation to my Wordpress theme development. 5 Questions: Anthony Baggett was a fun experience, especially since I had never had the pleasure of being interviewed.

We all know that bloggers love to get incoming links, right? And in my opinion, an interview is like the ultimate incoming link. Jonathan-C. Phillips touched on this recently, how an interview is like a recommendation. So I really appreciate the opportunity and the exposure!

John Lampard also runs The Interchange Desk, a site for those looking to make a change in the career department.

Removing Old Posts: Common Practice?

I was reading an article on North x East recently, written by Leo Babauta, that suggests periodically going through your archives and getting rid of old posts that don’t add a lot of value for your readers. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that, yet it surprised me when I read it. Since becoming more aquainted with blogging and what seems to be the overall consensus of the blogosphere, I’ve been under the impression that a post was to be left alone once it was published. Under certain circumstances, I’ve seen bloggers remove posts that generated some very heated debate and/or posts that were confrontational, but that’s a rare exception. I know there aren’t any rules, but thats been my impression.

While optimizing the “Signal-to-Noise Ratio” of your blog, Leo suggests:

Every month or two, you should go back over your archives. This is a daunting task for many bloggers, but it helps tremendously. You might have had a bunch of posts that talked about site updates, or your daily life, that most people don’t find interesting when they go over your archives. They want to find the amazing posts. If a post didn’t do well, perhaps it’s time to toss it. Cut out the noise.

The more I think about this, it really does make a lot of sense. Especially posts that announce site updates, etc. I’m not sure exactly what he means by posts that didn’t do well……..posts that didn’t generate many comments, perhaps? Mmmm, I’m not sure that would be a good way to decide how useful a post is.

What about you? What do you think about deleting older posts that don’t necessarily give the reader any benefit? How do you decide which ones stay and which ones go? I’m genuinely interested…

NetWorker: Theme for Wordpress

Would you be interested in THIS theme?

Oh no!!!! I’m becoming one of those bloggers who constantly changes their design……..oh, the horror!

Just kidding. :-) Actually, I’ve changed it up a couple of times lately, but that’s only because I’m having a great time producing themes. I had no intentions of putting this one up for download, but I decided I wanted something a little different. Now that my new design is ready, I want to share this one. I’ve used this design here on my site for the past month, and I’ve received some great compliments on it.

About This Theme

Do you remember Fastway? You know, that awesome 3 column theme from last month? Well, this theme was built using Fastway. You’ll notice that the same colors are used, I just moved things around. Originally, I was only going to take Fastway, and move both sidebars to the right side. I started tweaking this and that, and eventually, I had tweaked so much that I had a whole new theme. haha!

NetWorker is widget ready, and just waiting to help some diamond in the rough take their blog to the next level!

Testrun and Download now!

Tweaking My Current Design For Release

When I first introduced the Fastway theme(which got a lot of great attention), I had several really nice compliments about my current design, and questions as to whether I would make it available. Well, the time has come.

Would you be interested in THIS theme?

When I started the layout of this theme, I wanted something that had a very professional look to it, and also a memorable color scheme. I think I succeeded in both ways. You’re probably wondering why I’ve included a screenshot of this design in the post………when all you gotta do is look at the site you’re reading. :-) Well that’s because I want readers to see the design I’m talking about once I roll out my new design.

For the most part, nothing about this theme will change. It will be available as you see it here. Of course, the logo and banner will not be in the header……..that will be up to you to add whatever you want up there. The default header will have the blog title and tagline.

Links, Anyone?

Something I’m going to do a little different with this release, is offer you the opportunity to enjoy the incoming links that a theme can bring you. Would you like a boost for your Technorati rank? If so, this will be a cool opportunity………more on that later.

After doing some research, I will not be offering links afterall. It’s not an excuse, but I had no idea that their was an issue surrounding it. So I will be putting this design up for download, but no sponsored links.
