Photo Enhancement

Have you noticed how some bloggers really add a touch of life to their sites by the way they use photos? In my opinion, photos can make a plain, boring-looking site look great by adding that visual anchor. In a previous post, we talked about a few easy enhancements you can use to make your photos stand out. Here we’ll look at a few more ways to mix it up!

Benefits of Giving Others Respect

Best PracticesI’ve found that sometimes there is more than one way of doing things and more than one way of dealing with situations. Either way may bring a similar result, yet beneath the surface, there may lie a huge difference. For instance, how you treat a salesman may have a huge impact on what type of service you get after the sale. Or how you treat an employee or subordinate will probably have an effect on your career if at some point you become his or her subordinate. This happens more often than you think. There’s an old saying that says; “Beware of the toes you step on today, they may be connected to the butt you kiss tomorrow”. I’m not sure where the saying came from, but I think it’s a wise thing to remember when dealing with others. Possessing an attitude of superiority will always come back to bite you in the long run…..

Where Do You Get Your Blog Ideas?

IdeasHaving a blog is a lot of fun. To read blogs can be enjoyable as well, as long as there is fresh content. That can be the difficult part for a blogger.

When preparing to write a blog post, where do you get your ideas? Are they thoughts you already had, or are they ideas you came up with for the purpose of posting? Some people seem to have loads and loads of material, while others start with a bang, and slowly their posts become fewer and farther apart. Is this because they are running out of material? Or are they becoming bored? I’ve noticed many blogs that just rehash whats in the news or what some other blogger said. These are valid things to include in a blog, but not as the primary content.

The Path to Success Always Includes a Turn

cross-roadsHave you ever noticed how continuing down your current path always leads to failure? It seems like anytime you want to succeed at something, you always have to change the course you’re on. You don’t necessarily have to do an “about-face” (depending on your direction), but choosing to be successful at anything always includes veering off the beaten path a little. Typically, the usual advice is to decide what you want, sit down and write goals, then take action! It’s important to realize that to find success with anything, those three steps are not how everyone gets there. Do you think that everyone who has been successful has actually written down their goals? Not so!

4 Most Important Aspects Of Successful Blogging

4 Most Important Aspects of BloggingThere is so much information on the web today about web design and blogging. There are sites about Search Engine Optimization, Networking Sites, etc. For me, it’s a major case of information overload.

It appears to me that there are four major aspects that can’t go ignored if you want your blog or website to be successful. What I’m learning, is that one aspect is really no more important than the others. It’s the delicate balance of all four that will take your site from unknown to popular. So exactly what are these four aspects I speak of? If you took notice of the image in this post, and I bet you did, then you already know :-)

  • Content – The foundation of why anyone would bother looking at your website in the first place. Old content equals boring website. If you have something interesting to write about, here is an article that gives some great tips on how to present your content.
  • Design – Design is important because it gives off an impression about you and your content. Good design can be anything from minimal to pure eye candy. Having your site laid out where it’s easy to navigate is crucial.
  • Search Engine Optimization – Your site has a much better chance of success if people can find you based on your content. S.E.O. is all about getting your site ranked on Search Engine Sites such as Google, Yahoo, and Windows Live. This is one I don’t know as much about, however, I know that the blogging platform is ideal for S.E.O. due to constantly updated content.
  • Networking – Networking can be a very broad term. In blogging, commenting on other blogs and getting to know other bloggers is generally considered one good strategy. Also getting the word out about your site through forums, networking sites, and word of mouth are all helpful. Anything you can do to earn loyal readers could easily fit this category.

Putting it all Together

I don’t claim to have all the answers, as my blog isn’t very old. However, there are some great resources available, such as Problogger and Copyblogger. Just keep these 4 aspects in place, and your chances of having a successful site will increase significantly. If you have any more tips to add to the list, feel free to leave a comment and let us know what you think!
